Our star: Hayley Scott from housekeeping

The Be A Star employee recognition programme – organised by Compass Group UK & Ireland, the parent organisation of our catering and housekeeping partners, Restaurant Associates – celebrates the incredible hard work and outstanding achievements of its people across the UK and Ireland.

Be A Star asks teams to nominate colleagues who have excelled in one of three categories: Helping Colleagues, Delighting Customers and Supporting Communities. These people work across Compass sectors including healthcare, education and sports and leisure, representing frontline heroes in roles such as cleaners and retail workers, to chefs and support teams.

Hinxton Hall’s General Manager nominated Hayley for her personal efforts on sustainability and her work as SHINE ambassador. SHINE is Restaurant Associate’s bespoke guest experience programme that empowers their teams to consistently deliver first-class service for guests and clients. Ambassadors are coached through training modules, all focused on service excellence, empowering them to respond to their guests’ individual needs – whatever they may be.

In his nomination, Sunil Machile said:

Since Hayley started doing SHINE training sessions with her housekeeping team, their productivity and self-respect has increased considerably. She goes the extra mile to ensure these sessions are fun, interactive and relevant to housekeeping. She adds a personal touch to each session, which she plans thoroughly, sometimes even in her own time. Hayley is also trying to help other SHINE ambassadors from different departments become more confident in the delivery of their own training sessions.
Hayley also takes pride in her commitment to sustainability. She collects all used crisp packets on a weekly basis and takes them for recycling off site. Her enthusiasm for sustainability is contagious: she often talks with her colleagues about how important it is to segregate wastes properly, and she’s not afraid to discuss this with individuals if she sees it’s not being done properly.
She is an inspirational and dedicated colleague and we cannot praise her enough for what she is doing for Hinxton Hall and the team.

The recognition programme runs every quarter and each person is presented with a certificate, Be A Star pin, and £250, as well as a day off with their nominator to enjoy a celebratory lunch with other deserving colleagues from their region at one of Compass’ stand out venues.

Well done, Hayley! We’re very proud to have you at Hinxton Hall.

Big transparent bin bag with lots of crisp packets inside.

This is an example of a bag that Hayley takes to recycling. She set up a process in which all the housekeeping team collect old crisp packets separately from other waste. This bag represents about a week’s waste. Can you imagine how much is saved from landfill over a year?

Once crisp packets, and other plastic foil waste, are broken down into pellets and flakes through recycling, these can then be used to make:

  • Garden furniture, fence posts, benches, decking
  • Plant pots and planters
  • Artificial grass, play area, and tennis court flooring
  • Flooring tiles
  • Storage containers, watering cans
  • Shipping pallets
