Keeping our doors open: new virtual tour
Our exciting, new virtual tour allows you to explore the Wellcome Genome Campus Conference Centre in detail and at your own pace
It’s been a while since we’ve wanted a virtual tour to be able to show off our venue and facilities, and our closure this year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, gave us good reasons to get one made. Not only did we need to find a way for event organisers to still be able to visit our venue and visualise future events they may be planning at the Wellcome Genome Campus Conference Centre; we also had time to plan and film the tour (one small positive in this otherwise fraught period for meeting venues!).
We chose 3D Virtual Solutions for the task, and now have an interactive map of the Conference Centre that provides overviews, floor plans, information points, and a guided walk-through. We are incredibly happy with the result.
Take a look around – what do you think?
The virtual tour allows anyone curious – most likely future event organisers and delegates soon to visit our venue – to walk through the conference and event spaces virtually, flick between rooms with ease, visualise accessibility queries, and even use the measuring tool to measure anything from doorways to poster boards. It will also allow us to hold effective virtual walk rounds for clients, either during this closure, or more generally for those who are unable to visit in person before booking.
Highlights
For the full experience, we recommend you take a look around the virtual tour yourself, but here’s a quick peak in still images of what it looks like and some of the interesting features:

Where the tour doesn't go, you can see 360 degree photos, such as of the bedrooms
More about 3D Virtual Solutions and the filming process
3D Virtual Solutions is a family-run company with a background in event planning, photography, technology and engineering. Using Matterport software, they can create accurate 3D tours that take you on an immersive visual journey.
All the filming was done in three days by two of the 3D Virtual Solutions team, with help from the Conference Centre staff. Day one was the sunniest, so they took advantage of the good weather to image scan our outdoor areas, whilst we propped open as many doors a possible in the Conference Centre for the seamless flow of the camera from one room to the next. On day two, they scanned the whole of the Conference Centre, and we somehow got round the fact that many of the light bulbs in the Auditorium had blown after a period of not being used due to lockdown! Then the drone filming began, whilst the Conference Centre Operations team raced against time to turn around ten room set-ups for the following day’s filming. On day three, the scanning of Hinxton Hall was completed, along with a few 360 images of the bedrooms and meeting rooms. 3D Virtual Solutions then went away to do the editing, to which we added all the information points, and the tour was efficiently delivered in a fortnight.
The tour will be displayed prominently on our website soon. In the meantime, if you’d like to share a link to it with your colleagues or friends, copy this link by right clicking on this red text and select ‘copy link location’.
Enjoy the tour!
